Yoga Iyengar from a general point of view helps enormously to develop the stability of the person in different areas, such as the state of the mind, the physical, health, spirituality and consciousness. Therefore, yoga is based on cultivating the mind through meditation. One of the branches in which yoga is divided is Iyengar Yoga, with its practice the individual will achieve enormous well-being and a sense of personal fulfillment.
Yoga is a Sanskrit term whose meaning is ‘to unite’ while the word Iyengar means ‘king’, for this reason raja yoga could mean that the mind is considered as the king or that it is much more powerful than any other part of the body . This type of yoga is a basic part of yoga, it is a very old mental science, even one of the oldest in history.
Iyengar Yoga focuses mainly on having peace mentally and spiritually. It motivates the person to travel to his interior, discover himself and learn about the great power that the inner self possesses.
When you meditate in Iyengar Yoga, it means that you will have some time to reflect in silence, to get away from your day-to-day worries.
With this branch of yoga it is thought that the mind is a tool that helps us to interact with the environment and everything that concerns it; the mind does not have the capacity to function properly if it is clouded with thoughts, therefore in order to give relief to all those thoughts it is necessary to have knowledge about oneself.
The goals of Iyengar Yoga
The first thing to understand about Iyengar Yoga is that its main objective is the regulation of the mind since this diverts its attention inwards instead of being outwards.
There are many people who claim to have found wisdom through the discovery of the inner self and the experiences lived with it. Iyengar Yoga is very effective for exploring the mysteries of the mind, all this through meditation; this means that everything has to be based on an experience that is practical.
Yoga is a practical method to be able to philosophically explore the world of spirituality. By practicing meditation, learning about the spiritual world and the material world is obtained.
Iyengar Yoga deals directly with the mind, so its asanas are not based on making many movements with the body and hands. Actually, the postures of this branch of yoga try to make the person sit in a certain position, so everything possible is done to put aside all thoughts that do not generate even a little peace.
With this modality of yoga, the person who practices it can be taken to great levels of spirituality, the mastery of Iyengar Yoga is achieved when the way in which the mind is controlled is understood despite all the evil that may be in it.

Steps to practice Iyengar Yoga
The technique to practice Iyengar Yoga is not as complicated as you think, it really is very simple, it is based on finding a place that gives you peace of mind, you feel comfortable, you focus on the present, you concentrate on some thought and that Peace prevail in you.
1) Find a quiet place: The quiet place can be in your own home or if you prefer to go somewhere outdoors, preferably a place where there are many plants and trees. The ideal time to practice Iyengar Yoga is in the morning because there is usually less noise.
Likewise, when you meditate in the morning, it allows you to have a good mood for the rest of the day; and if you want so that you can reflect better you can place background music that is soft. The essential thing is that you feel comfortable and relax in the place you chose.
2) Sit comfortably: You can sit comfortably either in a chair or on the floor, although ideally it should be on the floor, and if you do it in a Vajrasana position, even better. In case you don’t feel comfortable sitting down, you can move and adjust until you do feel comfortable. You want to make sure you feel stable as you sit, your shoulders down, your chest forward, your back naturally straight, and your hands on your knees.
3) Focus on the present: Keep your eyes open and carefully look at a specific point in the place where you are. You can also choose to use the light of a candle, what you have to do is put the candle in front of you and focus on that light. You will slowly withdraw from everything around you and focus solely on the point or light.
When you do this, your mind will let go of thoughts, let them flow and don’t avoid them, so you accept them and try again to return to the present and concentrate on the point. We must not let thoughts affect us, we must assimilate it neutrally and let it pass.
4) Focus on one thought: After reducing the passage of negative thoughts through your mind and feeling calm, it is time to create a positive thought in your mind that will help you carry out the meditation.
Through awareness you must establish in the thought that you are calm. Concentrating on that thought, you will see how this becomes something that refreshes your being to the point of feeling fulfilled.
The more positive your thoughts are, the better; and negative thoughts you should not let them distract you from your goal, always try to return to your positive thinking when this happens.
5) Preserve peace: First of all, peace must prevail, you must feel calm with the positive thought that you are having in your mind. Try to hold on to the peace within you, have that peace for the rest of the day and you will have an excellent experience.
When you feel that peace is diminishing or you are feeling overwhelmed by something, take some time to meditate and thus return to tranquility. Meditation usually lasts about 10 to 20 minutes.
